Place the light

Drag the dot to put the light anywhere around baby — even far outside the frame. The dashed box is the photo; the grey dot is baby.

Drag the umbrella to move the light. Drag the small clay dot to aim where it throws. Drag the dark dots to place, rotate and width the shadow so it sits exactly where it falls on the face. Drag labels to reposition; drag the white dot to move an arrow tip. Double-click a label or recipe line to edit. Your work stays until you reset — use Export to save it.

Reading the map

The umbrella marks the light — canopy toward baby, fired through it (shoot-through). The warm cone is the throw across baby. The dark wash shows where the shadow lands — it should fall from the nose down toward the chin, never up the face. Arrows call out head, hands and the curve of the body.

The kit

These recipes were shot on this kit. The umbrella is a shoot-through — the strobe fires through the translucent panel for a soft, broad wash of light.
